“Celebrating Women in the Bible’’, at St Stephen Walbrook, in the City of London, brought together seven poems by Bishop Graham Kings, set to music for choir and organ by the English composer Tristan Latchford, with seven specially commissioned images by the Bulgarian iconographer Silvia Dimitrova. The subjects were Sarah, Miriam (above), Ruth, Esther, Mary Magdalene (below), Lydia, and Priscilla. The church’s Choral Scholars were directed by Andrew Earis, and the organ was played by Phoebe Tak Man Chow. Every choral scholar was also a soloist, taking on a particular character; and the audience was drawn into singing a hymn-like section, in the spirit of a Bach cantata. The event originated in Alison Kings’s offering to commission a birthday gift for her husband from Dimitrova in 2003.
