Frequently asked questions

I bought an app-only subscription from this website - how do I start using it?

1. Download the app from the App Store or google play and open it on your iPhone or iPad
2. Go to "Subscription Options"
3. Tap on "Already a Church Times subscriber" and sign in using the email address and password you used when purchasing your subscription.

What do I get when I subscribe to the app?

If you purchase an app-only subscription (either as an in-app purchase or from the Church Times website) you will get access to all app editions of the Church Times published from that date onward, for as long as you remain subscribed. App-only subscriptions do not include access to the Church Times website, the digital archive or the print edition.

*What if I already have a Church Times subscription?

If you have a print + digital or a digital-only subscription to the Church Times, then the app and back issues it contains are free. To start using the app:

1. Download the app from the App Store or google play store and open it on your iPhone/iPad android/tablet
2. Tap on "Subscription Options"
3. Sign in as an existing subscriber using the email address and password you use on the Church Times website

Do I get access to the archive on the Church Times website if I subscribe through the app?

No. Subscribing through the app does not entitle you to access the Church Times online archive or to receive a print subscription. To get full access to the Church Times website and online archive purchase a print + digital or a digital subscription instead.

How do I delete saved issues from the app?

On the Issues screen long press (tap and hold) a cover image to delete that issue. Issues covered by your subscription can always be downloaded again at a later date.

You can also set the app to delete old issues automatically. Tap on the cog icon at the top left of the screen and choose how many issues to store. Back issues will be deleted as you download the new edition each week.

How do I delete downloaded podcast episodes?

Long press (tap and hold) the blue “listen to podcast” button to delete a downloaded podcast.

How do I restore my subscription if I have deleted the app, bought a new device, or want to use the app on another device that is linked to the same Apple ID?

To restore your subscription open the app and go to Subscription Options. Tap the "restore" button and enter your Apple ID. If you want to use the app on another device that is linked to the same iTunes account, simply search for the app in the iTunes store and download it on to your second device.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To manage your subscription please follow these instructions from Apple on how to view, change or cancel a subscription. Please note, if you cancel your subscription before the end of your subscription period, you will not receive a refund. This is Apple policy.

If you purchased your subscription from this website (rather than as an in-app purchase) please contact our subscriptions department: subs@churchtimes.co.uk.

I have purchased a subscription by mistake - how do I get a refund?

If you purchase an app-only subscription by mistake (for example you already have a current print subscription) you can request a refund from Apple. Go to http://reportaproblem.apple.com/ and login with your Apple ID and password. Select the apps tab and click on the "report a problem" button next to the relevant subscription. Use the form to explain why you would like a refund. This is at Apple's discretion.

When attempting to download an issue I see the error 'Cannot contact iTunes store' or 'Cannot connect to linechef.publisher.29.io'. How do I solve this?

Please first try deleting the app entirely from your device(s), then re-installing from the App Store and going through the subscriber sign in process again. This often solves verification errors and some other problems that may be affecting the app.

This method is also good to try as a first response to any problem that you may be experiencing. If problems persist please email churchtimes@aimermedia.com.

If you have any other queries that are not covered in this list please contact us via email at marketing@churchtimes.co.uk and we will try and answer your question as soon as we can.
