Welcome to Christ The King Parish Website

The community that worships at the Church of the Christ The King in Reading strives to be open and welcoming. Like any place where people gather, the shape and make up of the community has changed over the years. We now have a great diversity of background and culture, nationality and age represented in our congregation which in one sense demonstrates.

Message from Father Pat:

Reflection

As we approach Ash Wednesday and the Season of Lent, we are reminded about our duty to forgive. The Lord says: 'I it is, I it is, who must blot out everything and not remember your sins'. Our redemption through forgiveness of our sins comes from God; we didn't deserve it or earned it, it is only His work, His compassion and His love, which saves us from eternal death. We need to do is to accept it and have faith in Him, cooperate with Him.

We, as His image, must be 'like Him': we must blot out all the sins of those 'who trespassed against us' too! Jesus said: 'the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins'. We are marked with His seal, we carry His Spirit in our hearts, so we participate in His redemptive work today, in His forgiving others, in His plan to save humankind. Let it be our sacrifice, especially now when we start our Lent Season.

Vocations in the Diocese of Portsmouth
Prayer for Openness to God’s Call (Pope John Paul II)

Lord Jesus, once You called the first disciples in order to make them fishers of men. Grant to young men and women the grace of responding promptly to Your voice. Enkindle in our communities a missionary zeal and do not let mankind be lost because of a lack of pastors. Mary, Mother of the Church, Model of Vocations, help us say “Yes” to the Lord Who calls us to collaborate in the divine design of salvation. Amen.

  • The New Translation of the Roman Missal – the four presences of Christ.

    The Second Vatican Council (1962-5) reminded us of our ancient faith: Christ is always present in his Church, especially in its liturgical celebrations. So, each time we come to Mass, we experience the presence of Christ in four different ways:

    1. Christ is present in the congregation – the people gathered together;

    2. Christ is present in the person of the priest;

    3. Christ is present in the Scriptures that we listen to during Mass;

    4. Christ is present in the bread and wine when if becomes Christ's Body and Blood.

    The more we are able to understand and join in the Mass, the more we will come to love it. The new translation will help us to do that, because the words we will now use will say more clearly what our faith is teaching us.
