Searching for Home: Advent reflections on the God who welcomes everyone: An ecumenical course in four sessions by the journalist and broadcaster Cole Moreton (York Courses/SPCK, £14.99 (£13.49); 978-1-73918-200-7) includes access to audio and video downloads (the latter filmed on location). The author, who lives on the south coast, refers particularly to those risking their lives in the English Channel to reach the UK. He explores Leaving Home, Fleeing Home, Carrying Home, and Finding Home. The Bishop of Dover, the activist Bridget Chapman, and Grmalem Gonetse Kasa, originally from Eritrea, take part. Connections are made with the nativity story. Bible readings are given in full in the book, with transcriptions of the interviews; and scattered through the reflections are quotations from famous figures from Aeschylus to Corrie Ten Boom.

A companion to the Common Worship Office, Reflections for Daily Prayer: Advent 2023 to eve of Advent 2024 (CHP, £17.99 (£16.19); 978-1-78140-395-2) retains its established format. This year’s new voices include Gregory Cameron, Chine MacDonald, and Emma Parker.

Journeying to the Light: Daily readings through Advent and Christmas by John Mann (Messenger, £11.95 (£10.75); 978-1-78812-646-5) refers to Roman Catholic lectionary provision (overlapping substantially with Anglican use) until Epiphany.

The Word is Near You, on Your Lips and in Your Heart: Reflections on the weekday readings for the liturgical year 2023-24 by Martin Hogan (Messenger, £18.95 (£17.05); 978-1-78812-647-2), starts with the Monday of the first week of Advent.

Sacred Space: The Prayerbook 2024 (Messenger, £12.95 (£11.65); 978-1-78812-640-3) offers daily scripture reading and points of reflection, as well as a weekly topic and six steps of prayer and reflection; or there’s Sacred Space: Advent and Christmas 2023-2024 (Messenger £6.95 (£6.25); 978-1-78812-634-2).

Waiting in Joyful Hope: Daily Reflections for Advent and Christmas 2023-2024 by Susan H. Swetnam (Liturgical Press, £2.99 (£2.69); 978-0-8146-6702-6) is another annual guide based on RC lectionaries; and is available in large print (£6.99 (£6.29); 978-0-8146-6703-3).
